Overall meaning :
These idolaters ask, out of sheer mockery and in a way that betrays their disbelief in the resurrection, ‘When will the Day of Resurrection come if your claim that we will be brought back to life and be judged is true?’ All they are waiting for is the first sounding of the Trumpet which will overtake them all of a sudden, while they are going about their daily business and disputing about their worldly affairs, totally oblivious to it. They will not be then able to make a will or return to their families!
The Trumpet will be blown again, and these idolaters will come forth from their graves, hastening to their Lord. ‘Woe betide us!’ they will cry. ‘Who has raised us up from our graves?! This is indeed the resurrection the All-Compassionate God promised us. His messengers did tell us the truth.’
Their resurrection will take place following one single blast of the Trumpet, and they will all be gathered before Us. On that day no one will suffer the least injustice, and you will all be repaid only according to your deeds.
