Overall meaning : Ask by way of reproach the idolaters among your people, Muhammad, who claim that the angels are Allah’s daughters: Does it stands to reason that they assign daughters whom they hate to your Lord, and keep sons whom they love for themselves?! Or is it that We created the angels female in their presence and so they know their gender?! No, indeed! It is one of their despicable fabrications to assert that Allah has offspring! They are truly liars.
Would He truly choose daughters in preference to sons?! What is the matter with you that you make such obviously erroneous judgement? Are you so ignorant of such obvious matters that you do not reflect and pay heed?! Or do you have a manifest proof of what you claim? Produce, then, your book bearing such proof if what you say is true.
These idolaters further claim that Allah has set up a marital relationship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know very well that they are created by Allah, like all other creation, and that they will be brought before Him for judgement on Resurrection Day. Glory be to Him and High Exalted be He above what they attribute to Him! Allah’s true and devoted servants whom He has chosen and purified to obey Him never attribute such defects and imperfections to Him.
Surely neither you, idolaters, nor the alleged gods that you worship cannot lead anyone astray, except for those who, according to Allah’s foreknowledge, will be destined for Hell.
