Overall meaning : Allah enjoins His Prophet, Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, nit to feel wonder at the hypocrites’ wealth and children, stating that He, Exalted be He, only intends to torment them by means of these in this worldly life, and so that they die while stubbornly persisting in their unbelief.
He also informs us about their lies and cowardice, stating that they swear by Allah to the believers that they are in truth of them, when they are by no means of them, and that they are afraid of the believers and so they only swear to them to win their trust and be safe from them. He states that if they could find a stronghold in which to take refuge, caves in mountains or tunnels dug deep in the ground, they would run in frantic haste to seek refuge in them because of their intense hatred for the believers, their aversion to them and the fear of going into battle with them.
