Overall meaning : Allah asserts that some hypocrites pledged themselves to Allah, vowing that if He gave them of His bounty they would pay the prescribed charity and be among the righteous who are dutiful to Allah and fulfil their duties towards others. However, when Allah bestowed His bounty on them, they grew niggardly, disobeyed Him and went back on their pledge. Thus, Allah caused hypocrisy to take root and settle in their hearts and remain there until the day they die and meet Allah, for having reneged on the solemn promise they made to Allah and for lying and contradicting their own words.
Are these hypocrites not aware that Allah knows what they conceal and what they talk about in secret, and that He, Exalted be He, knows full well all all the things that are beyond the reach of human perception?
