Overall meaning : Mention to the Children of Israel, Muhammad, the time when Allah said to Moses’s people—their own ancestors, 'Dwell in the Holy land (Jerusalem), and eat of its fruits, grains and vegetation from wherever you wish, and pray for forgiveness, saying, “We beseech You, our Lord, to forgive us our sins,' and enter the gate of the city bowing down humbly and in total submission to Allah: We will forgive you your sins and give increase to those who do good.’
The wrongdoers among them, however, acted contrarily to Allah’s command by changing what they were told to words that were not said to them, and so Allah let loose on them a scourge from the heavens as punishment for their wrongdoing themselves by persistently disobeying His commands.
