Overall meaning : Allah, Exalted be He, says to His Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: People ask you when the Day of Judgement will take place. Say to them, 'None but my Lord has knowledge of it. Only He will reveal it at the appointed time. Its time is unknown to the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth. It will not come on you but suddenly.’ They ask you about it, Muhammad, as though you had enquired so much about it that you are now well-acquainted with its time. Say to them, 'Only Allah has knowledge of it, but most people do not know this.’
Say to them, 'I have no power to do good or harm to myself except as Allah wills. And if I had the knowledge of the unseen, I would have availed myself of an abundance of good and no harm would ever have come me. I am only a warner to those who disobey Allah and a bearer of joyful tidings to true believers.
